Dear Summer,

You are a breath of fresh air. We’re so glad you are here. Now we get a break from all the hustle of the school year. Honestly, we are getting a little lazy around here and need some simple FUN to do right away….We need your help Summer!  Mom is little stir crazy with all the kids wondering “what we gonna’ do today?”  They really don’t like when I say “you’re helping mommy with the chores again.” Mom says, “yay!” Kids say, “nay =(.”

Ok, so let me think back, way back to my childhood….SUMMERTIME….What were you like? You were a lemonade stand on the corner, warm cement under a cool wet swim-suit and racing around the neighborhood on a bicycle. Oh yes, I remember these like it was yesterday. Although, I can’t remember the last time that I actually went out and did them myself. I have watched my children play away many a summer day….Ok that’s it! I’ve decided I need to get out and have a little fun too. My goal is to get us to do something other than work and whine our days away. Now for some of my favorite summer activities, because you know I used to be a real expert on summer fun. I’ll try these classics out WITH my kids. I’m officially giving myself permission to stop, get my feet wet with sprinklers and my hands dirty with chalk. Why should you get to play?….because mom needs a little summer break too.

5 simple activities for you and your children this summer.

  • RUN through sprinklers. Don’t forget the popsicles
  • JUMP rope. Don’t forget the classic jump rope rhymes.
  • DRAW with sidewalk chalk. Don’t forget to hopscotch.
  • BIKE ride around the block. Don’t forget the helmets.
  • SLEEP in the backyard. Don’t forget to turn off the sprinklers 😉

P.S. If you need me, you’ll find me outside jumping rope….1, 2, 3, 4, 5…..
